Staying in a Hostel.

Sh*t that may happen to you in a hostel

For every backpacker that’s been staying in a few hostels around the world, you know what it’s like. Hostels can either be the best thing or the worst. It doesn’t even have to be about the facilities – it can be about the guests, staff, location, everything! But one thing’s for sure: hostels are a great way to meet other travelers and it’s also a cheaper way to travel. But there’s just some things that are out of our control. The best thing to do is to laugh about it and move on, because we’ve all been there! Here’s a list of sh*t that may happen to you in a hostel.

People snoring

You’re tired, you’ve been longing for a bed to rest your head in and… your neighbor, or worse, neighbors are all snoring so loudly that you can barely fall asleep. This is something that has probably happened to 99% of backpackers. It’s annoying, frustrating but it’s nothing you can do about it. You can’t control other people. Instead, make sure to buy earplugs before arriving to your hostel. It’s a lifesaver!

Someone steals clothes from the laundry

You do your laundry and you dry it for the next day. When you’re about to pick it up, you notice that a few items are missing. Strange, you think. Perhaps I didn’t wash it. But you did! And then it hits you – either someone took it by mistake or they deliberately took it. The only thing you can do is to comfort yourself with the fact that you can now buy new clothes without feeling bad about it.

Someone’s always turning the lights on

You were just about to fall asleep, but all of a sudden this person is, yet again, turning the lights on for the 10th time. And it doesn’t stop there! That person also talks loudly with someone on the phone at the same time, even though it’s past midnight. Annoying, to say the least.

People are loud and drunk

When you’re the sober one, it’s not always fun to be around loud and drunk people. But if you check in to a party hostel, count with a few drunk people who’ll try to make you down a few shots with them. The worst thing I’ve heard happening to someone in a party hostel amongst drunk people is that one person decided to pee in their bed. Yuck.

You get bed bugs

In order to see if there might be bed bugs, look under the mattress and sheets, see if there’s any blood stains or so. Look at the reviews too before you go to a hostel! You don’t want to get bed bugs. They’re a pain in the ass to remove.
